Inspired by the Amate tree, a tree used to make handmade paper since pre-Hispanic times, this sustainable community project has rescued the ancestral tradition of making paper from plants. Skilled Mayan-Yucatan artisans use renewable and arable natural resources in the production process, such as sansiviera, banana, cotton, henequen, corn, coconut and other fibrous materials. These materials give the paper better consistency and finish.
The cooperative is member of a national network of rural and self-sustained cooperative organizations committed to the environment, Fair Trade and the improvement of the living standards of its members. It is a tool through which rural community oriented businesses can get training on how to maintain or improve the quality of their products as well as assistance in the commercialization of their products and services. The network committed to the preservation and conservation of Mexico's natural resources, forests and wildlife.
