The Masha Shoulder Bag
bhs2030
A deliberately eco-chic handbag that keeps up with you day and night. Designed for women who like to keep their hands free, the Masha slings across the chest and hangs comfortably on your hip. Supple and lightweight, it's hand-crocheted with over 1,600 recycled aluminum pull-tabs. Comes with nylon fabric liner, zipper closure, one inside zipped pocket, shoulder strap with hand crocheted padding.

Escama (fish scales in Portuguese) works with Cia do Lacre and As Panteras do Lacre women's cooperatives located in economically depressed "satellite cities" of Brasilia, Brazil. The co-ops offer women business training and a means to earn a living through the production of fashion-forward, functional bags from recycled materials. Prices of goods are set by the cooperatives and the production is in their hands.

Escama respects Fair Trade principles and the artists are paid fairly for their piecework. In addition, Escama donates 3% of gross annual sales directly back to the cooperatives.
